Racine
County Supervisors on Monday night held a public meeting concerning numerous
zoning issues.
Tonight’s
public hot button drew an over the room capacity crowd.
The over the room capacity crowd were mainly in opposition of the proposed Apiculture zoning ordinances submitted by
the Public Works & Development Services office, herein referred to as the
zoning office. The Racine County Board
of supervisors listened as speaker after speaker spoke of the shortcomings of
the proposed 4 page zoning draft.
Beekeepers , Bee experts, and others
interested in apiculture filled the room to capacity. Overwhelmingly, the
attending public was opposed to the drafted ordinances submitted by the
zoning office.
During
public input, Mark Gleason, Racine County Chairman, ordained resident Horticulturist,
Dr Patty Nagai from the University of Wisconsin extension service as tonight’s
expert on bees. Dr. Nagai spoke to the
County supervisors of the need for bees in our community.
Others involved in bee keeping operations spoke
to the county Board of the numerous proposed ordinances that would impede bee
keepers operations.
Racine
County Supervisors Thomas Roanhouse, Monte Osterman, Thomas Pringle, Robert Grove,
along with Zoning officials Julie Anderson and Brian Jensen listened intently
as the public passionately opposed various
segments the drafted ordinance.
At
the end of tonight’s meeting, Racine County officials tabled the proposed
ordinance and will be reviewing future options.
We
at RCC suggest the public should send their concerns of the proposed draft directly
to the office of Public Works & Development Planning c/o Julie Anderson at julie.anderson@goracine.org
Please be cordial and constructive with your
comments to her office.
This is too important an issue and we all need to get this right the
first time.
